MAST Open Channel is a curated editorial space within MAST: The Journal of Media Art Study and Theory dedicated to conversations with artists, filmmakers, curators, authors, scholars, and cultural practitioners working across media, art, science, and technology.

Open Channel contents include interviews, reviews, book conversations, project features, short reflections, roundtables, audio and video conversations, and other interdisciplinary formats. Its structure remains intentionally flexible, allowing each contribution to take the form most responsive to the work, project, or conversation at hand. Whenever appropriate, conversations may be developed as video or audio pieces, accompanied by edited transcripts, images, links, or related materials, in order to expand the public visibility, accessibility, and circulation of the work.

Published at irregular intervals, Open Channel extends MAST’s commitment to interdisciplinary publishing by creating a space for timely, experimental, and practice-responsive exchanges beyond the structure of regular journal issues. Pieces are developed through invitation, editorial conversation, collaboration, and selected proposals.

Open Channel is especially interested in conversations around media art, media theory, artistic research, experimental cinema and video, curatorial practice, media archaeology, archives, digital and analog media, embodiment, media infrastructures, and the intersections of art, science, and technology.
